Staff does non have the key of our room to give us ...staff was not so kind

  • Group of friends

Nice decoration of rooms, clean and well situated hostal.

    Rooms are too small.

  • Couple

Great location in the center of Madrid. A little bit "oldscool" and smallrooms but clean. You don't need anythig more to spend nice weekend in Madrid. Very quiet. Some rooms' windows facing nice garde

As other testimonials say, friendly staff did not speak any English, but I do not find this as disadvanatage. I guess that the Her Majesty's Subjects could learn at least basic words in language of country they are travelliing to.

  • Group of friends

This is a very small, family-run hostel. The location is excellent for anywhere in central Madrid, especially the musuems.

The room was pretty small & basic, but very serviceable.

  • Single

The location was excellent - opposite the entrance to the Prado and 10 minutes' walk from the Reina Sofia and the main train station. In the other direction you could get to the Plaza Mayor and the Plaza del Sol within 10 minutes. The room was comfortable, clean and above all, very quiet, with windows on a beautiful garden (Lopez de Vega museum garden).

It would have been nice to have a small, basic breakfast. On the other hand, there are many small cafes (and a big Starbucks) just outside the building. So, this is really more just me being lazy!

A little noise street for me

  • Couple

The hostal is quite basic but we liked it because of its location - close to the metro station (Anton Martin) and only some minutes by walking to Plaza Mayor. Furthermore, the surroundings are also great - a lot of restaurants and bars on the neighboor streets, but the street where the hotel is situated is absolutely quiet. The equipment of our room was not so new, but everything worked well: the airconditioning, TV, shower, hairdryer, so no complaints. The lady on the reception didn't speak English, but when we asked her by mail before arriving to wait for us until 1:00 am, because our flight had been delayed, she waited, although it was stated in the reservation that the latest check-in is till 0:00.

  • Couple

it's clean, friendly, very reasonably priced and in an excellent location- have been going there for years.

  • Group of friends

Very accommodating and friendly staff. Location in Madrid Bourbon is excellent. Beautiful area, close to Retriro Park and Plaza Cybele -- much quieter than "old Madrid," which is adjacent and an easy walk, but close to music, restaurants, pretty areas.

Room was a bit small by us standards, but not at all out of line for Europe. (Even so, it was spotless and cleaned daily.). Hostal Armesto does not offer any meals. There is a small common area.

  • Family with children

We like the central location. El Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol were on walking distance. We had convenience stores, bakeries, bus and metro stops as well. Marco was very helpful as to providing valuable information, maps, how to get to places, etc. I regret not leaving a tip for keeping up the room and providing this assistance.

I liked everything. We couldnt make the tv to work but we could have asked Marco to solve that. Guess we were really not that interested in watching tv anyway.

  • Family with children

Hotel is placed in a convenient location in Madrid. It is 5-10 minutes to metro, 5 minutes to Prado and another sightseeings. Yellow Bus stop to airport is a near of hotel. Hotel is quiet and clean. Staff are hospitable and friendly.

    Sometimes staff are absent.

  • Family with children

Hotel Armesto was a nice, budget Spanish hotel. The location was great!! Walk to Prado, Atocha Renfe. Metro a few blocks away. The rooms were clean, not fancy, but comfortable. Nice bathroom. Fairly quiet street. Good security with outside door lock. Located on 1st floor (Spain) or 2nd floor to Americans. No elevator. Young owners were pleasant but spoke no English so they were not helpful - although it was only because of the language. Good for a budget or just wanting to a cute, local hotel. TIP IN MADRID: Get a GOOD city map at the train station. The one from tourist information does NOT name all the streets. Old city, winding streets, no names. . . easy to get lost and frustrating for someone who NEVER gets lost.

    Nothing for the budget traveler.

  • Group of friends

The "barrio" is calm and nice and it has a 12h supermarket near the hostal. You just need a 5 minute walk to reach Thyssen and Prado and 10 minutes to Puerta del Sol. The room was really comfortable.

  • Family with children

    * good location (close to the parliament), withing walking distance to Plaza de Cibeles, where the Airport Shuttle Bus stop is * clean room and bathroom * on the whole, the place is correct (no frills), but OK to stay a day or two.

    * as most hostal of this type in the centre of Madrid, the rooms are not very big * you have to climb up a flight of stairs to get to the hostel * no gel/shampoo in the bathroom (only liquid soap) * slow internet connection (the connection is often broken) * FEW plugs available: to charge your mobile and laptop, you have to unplug a lamp and airconditioning

  • Group of friends

We were pleasantly surprised how easy it was to find the hostal after about 15 min journey by bus from the airport. The place was quiet(although at night some locals would have fun on the street below our balcony, but hey after all it's Madrid!).The staff was really nice and helpful(thank you for the kettle Marco),we had all the keys needed to get in at any time of the day or night,tv in our room, shower and the loo just for us,central heating and air condition.Broadly speaking, quite comfy and worth recommending place to stay for the folks on a budget.

Before you go there, please learn a few essential words in Spanish! Otherwise communication with the staff may be slightly difficult.
